The interactive activities map on our website makes it easy to stay informed about what's happening across the proposed mine site. The map is updated regularly with the latest project information. Visitors can click on the highlighted areas to learn more about current activities. Updates are posted weekly or more frequently as activities change.
One of the latest updates on the map is the resuming of Albemarle's exploratory drilling, as a new campaign began in July and should continue through the end of 2026. The campaign builds upon previous drilling efforts to further improve understanding of the site's lithium resource. The work uses diamond core drilling, a method designed to minimize surface disturbance while operating quietly and producing minimal vibrations.

Lithium in our Lives: Back to School

As students head back to school this fall, backpacks may feel as heavy as ever. But thanks to lithium-ion battery technology, many of the devices students rely on every day are significantly lighter than they would be otherwise. Lithium's high energy density allows batteries to store more power while weighing less, making tablets, laptops and graphing calculators more portable for students of all ages.

Responsible Mining at Kings Mountain: Dust Control Strategy

At Albemarle, protecting the community and environment remains a top priority. As part of our commitment to responsible operations, we plan to implement a comprehensive dust control strategy at the Kings Mountain site.
The strategy is designed to minimize airborne particles generated during mining and rock-crushing activities. Planned measures include vehicle speed limits to reduce dust on roadways, as well as the use of water trucks and dust suppressants to keep exposed surfaces damp.
Albemarle also plans to install enclosed conveyor systems to help contain material movement and limit dust emissions. In addition, strategically placed baghouses equipped with filtration systems will capture dust generated during the crushing process.
Together, these measures are expected to reduce dust during both construction and mining operations, helping create a safer environment for nearby residents and Albemarle employees while supporting the company's environmental stewardship goals.

Meet Ryan, a Summer Intern at the Kings Mountain Site

During Albemarle's 12-week internship program, Ryan gained hands-on experience supporting lithium metals operations. A Cornelius native, he enjoyed the mountain views on his commute and exploring local restaurants in Kings Mountain. We wish Ryan continued success as he completes his final year at NC State.

Project Scientist
For the fourth consecutive year, the Albemarle Foundation partnered with Project Scientist, a nonprofit focused on empowering girls through STEM education, to support students in our communities.
Last month, students participated in hands-on chemistry and geochemistry experiments, met employee STEM professionals and toured the Kings Mountain Mine site. The experience gave them a firsthand look at how STEM is used to solve real-world challenges and create innovative solutions.
