One Billion Gallons Successfully Removed from Kings Mountain Mine Pit

Earlier this week, Albemarle achieved a milestone in the work to redevelop the Kings Mountain Mine by dewatering one billion gallons from the legacy mine pit. Initiated in April 2024, the dewatering process involves treating and discharging water in compliance with environmental standards to protect the surrounding water resources. The process is on track for completion by the end of 2025.

Albemarle Connected with Over 2000 Students at Local Career Fairs

Albemarle recently participated in eight local career fairs across Cleveland County, engaging with a diverse group of over 2,000 students, from middle schoolers to undergraduates at Gardner-Webb University. These events provided an opportunity to discuss local career opportunities within Albemarle's Kings Mountain site, addressing students' interests in salary expectations, educational requirements and potential career paths.

Among the future career options highlighted were roles in chemical operations, heavy equipment operator, supply chain management and information technology. These positions offer viable local employment opportunities, some of which may not require a four-year degree. One example of a trade education path is at Cleveland County Community College, where Albemarle donated to enhance workforce training programs and help build a strong local talent pipeline.

Last year we awarded 21 local grants in honor of the City of Kings Mountain's 150th Anniversary. This year, we will continue to highlight a few of these recipients every month to follow the contributions they are making to their communities:

Cleveland County Boys and Girls Club

2025 Legislative Breakfast

Albemarle was proud to serve as the Education & Growth Sponsor at the 2025 Legislative Breakfast, hosted by the Cleveland County Chamber.

The event featured remarks from Sen. Ted Alexander, Rep. Kelly Hastings and Rep. Paul Scott, who shared updates on legislative priorities and challenges impacting the region. As Elizabeth Champion, president and CEO of the Cleveland County Chamber, shared, “The Legislative Breakfast was a powerful reminder of how vital open dialogue between our elected officials, local businesses, and residents truly is. We’re especially grateful for partners like Albemarle, whose strong presence and support underscore the value of corporate involvement in building a vibrant, sustainable future for Cleveland County.”

My Home Library

Albemarle is proud to support the My Home Library Project alongside community partners, Cleveland County Schools and the United Way of Cleveland County. Through this initiative, more than 2,100 first- and second-grade students will receive books to build their own home libraries this summer.
